Fernando
Gonzalez continued the Grand Slam draught for Andy Murray after taking care of the
Englishman in four sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 at the French Open on Tuesday to
advance to the semifinals at Roland Garros.
Gonzalez
was able to take advantage of the opportunities presented as he broke Murray’s
serve on six of his 12 chances and collected 45 winners compared to just 19
from Murray. While Murray was able to put 72 percent of his first serves in
play he only won 59 percent of those offerings.
Gonzalez
has never won a Grand Slam singles title but he has come close. In 2007 he
reached the finals of the Australian Open but was beat by Roger Federer. The
Chilean also reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open and his
semifinals appearance at the French Open is the furthest he has ever reached at
Roland Garros.
