Narconon Supports Outpatient Drug Rehab For Atlanta Residents
Atlanta drug court offers outpatient rehab as alternative for non-violent offenders instead of jail time.
Atlanta’s drug and alcohol problem is increasing like it is in most states. The crime rate due to drug and alcohol abuse is high and many people who go through the justice system are repeat offenders. Atlanta’s plan to help drug offenders is underway and those who are non-violent offenders can be sentenced to outpatient drug rehab in some cases instead of doing jail time. Narconon Arrowhead wants to help by offering drug education lectures which it has been doing since 2000. After all, the best way to solve the drug problem is to educate people about dangers of drugs and alcohol.
The Cobb County Drug Treatment Court is determined to reduce the rates of substance abuse, crime, and recidivism. The plan is to provide intensive supervision, treatment and judicial guidance for alcohol and/ or chemically dependant individuals. The purpose of the treatment program is to integrate substance abuse treatment with the justice system, for reduction of recidivism, promotion of individual responsibility, citizenship, and of public safety.
Drug Treatment Court is an 18-month pre and post adjudication program. This program handles non-violent felony substance abuse cases through intensive supervision, drug treatment and rehabilitation. It’s a rigorous program that holds its participants fully accountable for their own actions.
The Drug Treatment Court consists of five phases crafted to ensure that each participant receives the right amount and type of treatment throughout his or her recovery path. This program offers first-time offenders a unique opportunity to have their charges dismissed when they successfully meet program requirements. The District Attorney will then file a motion to nolle prosequi the case yielding no criminal conviction. Participants that are in the program due to a probation violation will have the opportunity to have the violation removed from their record or avoid incarceration time.
It would be great if more states would adopt this type of program for non-violent offenders with addiction to drugs and alcohol. States that do not offer some type of rehabilitation program to help individuals recover are only using up tax payers money to keep the offenders in jail, which in most cases does absolutely nothing to help them with their drug and alcohol addiction. Once these offenders are released, they relapse and sooner or later they wind up in jail again. The money the tax payers are putting out each year should be going to help solve addiction instead of keeping the cycle in constant rotation for these addicts who desperately need help.
