Derrick Favors Named YourFINDit Player of the Year, Leads High School All-American Team

Derrick Favors was named Player of the Year for the 2009 YourFINDit High School All-American Basketball Team.

Favors, the 6-foot-9 forward/center from South Atlanta H.S. in Georgia, has swept the nation’s top honors, earning the USA Today, Naismith and McDonald’s Player of the Year awards this season. Favors, a Georgia Tech commit, averaged 28.1 points, 13.3 rebounds, 5.0 blocked shots, and 4.0 steals a game while leading his South Atlanta (29-3) team to the state championship.

Favors joins John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Avery Bradley and Xavier Henry on the All-American first team.

Wall, the nation’s top overall player by Rivals.com, averaged 22.1 points, 5.5 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 2.0 steals for Word of God Academy in Raleigh, NC. He recently committed to the Kentucky Wildcats, where he will join fellow first teamer Cousins. Cousins averaged 24.1 points, 13.2 rebounds. 4.6 assists, 3.2 blocks and 5.1 steals for LeFlore H.S. in Mobile, AL.

Bradley had an amazing season this season after leaving Bellarmine Prep (Tacoma, WA), where he teamed with fellow McDonald’s All-American Abdul Gaddy. While at Findlay Prep (Henderson, NV), Bradley, a Texas recruit, led his 33-0 team to a win in the inaugural National High School Invitational and the mythical USA Today national championship. He averaged 18.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals.

Stephenson caps off a storied career in historic fashion as he became the first player to ever win four consecutive PSAL titles in New York City history. Stephenson also became the all-time leading scorer in New York history (over 2,900 points) while averaging 31.9 points and 12.8 rebounds this season. He remains unsigned as he awaits a pending court case in which he and a teammate were arrested and charged with sexual assault.

Xavier Henry, Renardo Sidney, Kenny Boynton, John Henson and Keith Gallon lead the second team, while Dexter Strickland, Gaddy, Ryan Kelly, Mouphtaou Yarou and Brandon Knight are featured on the third team.
