Juan Martin Del Potro found his way into his first semifinals at a Grand Slam singles event on Wednesday after he breezed past Tommy Robredo in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 at the French Open.
Del Potro pounded Robredo with a powerful serve that produced 14 aces in the match and when he landed his first serve he collected points 90 percent of the time. Robredo had seven break point opportunities in the match but failed to convert on any of those chances while Del Potro collected four breaks on ten opportunities.
Del Potro reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open earlier this year and had a quarterfinals appearance at the 2008 U.S. Open but the 20-year-old has never been past the second round at Wimbledon.
