LeBron James was released from the Cleveland Clinic on Wednesday after undergoing a five-hour surgery to remove a benign growth from his right jawbone. The surgery took place on Tuesday.
James returned home Wednesday and is recovering well, according to the Cavs organization.
During the operation Tuesday, Dr. Frank Papay removed tissue from the parotid gland, which produces saliva. Surgery for such conditions often takes time because of the numerous nerves and blood vessels in that area of the jaw.
James has had the condition for several months but opted to put off surgery until the Cavaliers completed their season.
During the series, James averaged 38.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, 8.0 assists, 1.2 blocks and 1.2 steals per game, becoming the first player in NBA history to average 38 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists in a single playoff series. The Magic will now face the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals, which begin on Thursday night.
During the regular season, James was named the NBA Most Valuable Player and led the Cavaliers to the league’s best record (66-16).
