Jameer Nelson Returns to Orlando Magic, Will Play in NBA Finals

Jameer Nelson, the NBA All-Star guard, will return to the Orlando Magic and play in the NBA Finals, according to reports Wednesday.

Nelson played in just 42 games this season after suffering a torn labrum in his right shoulder in a Feb. 2 game against the Dallas Mavericks. He underwent surgery for his shoulder on Feb. 19, ending his season.

Nelson was then placed on a four-to-six month rehabilitation program, which he has been very successful with, thus accelerating his rehab schedule. In his absence, the Magic acquired point guard Rafer Alston from the Houston Rockets, who took the helm as the starter.

Nelson took part in Tuesday’s practice with the team as they embark on Game 1 of the 2009 NBA Finals on Thursday. Team officials have the final say, but it looks very likely that Nelson will be in uniform and ready to play on Thursday.

During the season, the Magic were 2-0 against the Lakers. Nelson played in both games and was key in both wins. He averaged 27.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists against the Lakers in both games.

Nelson was named to the 2009 NBA All-Star Game this year, but his injury happened just prior to the game and did not participate. The All-Star nomination was the first in his career. He joined teammates Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis on the team.
