Brazilian Navy Vessel Arrives Near Site of Air France Flight 447 Crash, Search for Clues Intensifies

A Brazilian navy vessel has arrived in an area of the Atlantic where debris from Air France Flight 447 has been found and now the search for clues into what caused the Airbus 330-200 to fall from the sky with 228 people aboard has intensified.

While officials have identified an oil slick and found debris from the jet the hope for actually finding the flight data recorders is slim with some saying they could be under waters that stretch more than 12,000 feet deep.

The discovery of the oil slick, stretching over 13 miles, could rule out a fire or explosion as a possible cause of the accident. That would likely lead many to believe an electrical failure caused by powerful Atlantic storms sealed the fate of the jet. Aviation authorities had received automatic messages from the flight indicating serious problems, including the loss of cabin pressure.

If Flight 447, traveling from Rio de Janeiro to Paris, experienced electrical problems and loss of air pressure it is possible the Air France jet broke apart prior to hitting the Atlantic. For now officials are concentrating on collecting as much debris as possible and hoping to piece together an understanding of what happened.
