Dolores Hope, Wife of Bob Hope, Dies At 102

Dolores Hope, the widow of comedian and philanthropist Bob Hope, has died. Her publicist, B. Harlan Boll, confirmed she passed away Monday at her Toluca Lake, California home. The exact cause of death was not given, but a family friend said Hope’s health had recently declined. Hope was 102.

Dolores began a career as a nightclub singer under the name Dolores Reade in the early 30s. It was during an appearance at Manhattan’s Vogue Club in 1933 that Dolores met Bob Hope. She married him the following year and gave up her singing career to raise their four adopted children, Eleanora, Linda, Kelly and Anthony. Dolores returned to music in her 80s and recorded her first album, Dolores Hope: Now and Then, at the age of 83. She recorded three other albums.

Dolores made appearances on many of her husband’s TV specials and accompanied him overseas while he entertained American troops. The couple was also heavily involved in charities and humanitarian work. They remained married until Bob died in 2003 at the age of 100. Dolores will be buried alongside her husband at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery. She is survived by their three daughters.
