One Tour Championship Ends, Another Begins

When the last putt is holed at the PGA TOUR Championship in Atlanta this Sunday, the start of another Tour Championship will be only 17 hours away across the country in Carlsbad, California.

The PGA TOUR's FedExCup playoff wraps up on September 25. On September 26, the inaugural U.S. Putting Tour Championship begins with over 150 golfers vying for the title of America's Best Putter. At stake will be $10,000 to the winning professional and the beautiful USPT Championship crystal trophy to the overall winner, whether it's a professional or an amateur.

"We're not expecting Luke Donald, Webb Simpson, or any of the other PGA TOUR players to travel west for our Tour Championship," said Jim Hartley. "But we do have a quality group of professionals from the mini-tours and clubs throughout the country."

Hartley added that with the Nationwide Tour also having an event that concludes in Southern California on September 25th, he expects to see some last-minute entrants into his putting event from that roster of players.

Amateurs will compete with the professionals in the USPT's Tour Championship, although amateurs will be in line for merchandise prizes instead of cash, in order to protect their amateur status. Anyone who is at least 13 years old by the start of the putting tournament can compete in the USPT Championship. Men and women also will compete together for the title.

Hartley indicated that entries are still being accepted at the USPuttingTour website and that, space permitting, walk-up entries are allowed during Tour Championship Week.
