Improper Pain Management Leads To Addiction

Prescription drug addiction has become an epidemic

Prescription drug addiction has become an epidemic in the United States. Not a day goes by without a story in the news about addiction to pain pills. Often, the most dangerous element in the saga of prescription drug addiction are the physicians who continually supply people who are addicted to these pills.  Addiction is a disease, not a weakness, though many people suffering from chronic pain are seeking a "quick fix" for their misery.

For many years, physicians have struggled with treating patients with chronic pain. Whether caused by disease or an illness, the daily existence with often intolerable pain is not something many physicians can understand. Their first instinct is to write the patient a prescription for a pain pill, and soon, the patient finds themselves reliant on those tiny pills just to get through their day. The root cause of many people’s addiction to prescription pain pills is often poor pain management.

Most people cannot imagine becoming addicted to prescription pain pills, but all too frequently, the possibility of relief from the pain is a welcome friend. But here is where the real problems start - an addiction to pain pills is truly a miserable existence, and only through a pain drug rehab program can addicts learn effective coping mechanisms for their chronic pain. Pain management does not have to be about popping the next pill - the practice of yoga or meditation can provide true relief for chronic pain.

Pain management will not be easy, nor will it happen overnight. It will require the addict to be patient and trust the professionals in a pain drug rehab program to show them the way. Effective and true pain management is truly within reach for every person who finds themselves addicted to pain pills.
