College Football Recruiting: DeMarcus Milliner, Nation's Top Cornerback, Commits to Alabama

DeMarcus Milliner, the nation’s top cornerback for the class of 2010, committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide on Thursday.

Milliner, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound five-star prospect from Stanhope Elmore H.S. in Millbrook, AL, made his verbal commitment during a press conference at his high school gymnasium. He selected the Tide over Auburn, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennessee and LSU.

"I know Coach Smart and Coach Saban will push me to become the very best that I can. No one is better at developing defensive backs than Coach Saban. When I leave Alabama I know I will be ready to play at the next level."

Unlike many other five-star prospects in his class, Milliner wasn't interested in waiting until Signing Day to make his college decision.

"I didn't want to waste any more time for other schools recruiting me and I really just wanted to get it behind me so I could focus on school and football," said Milliner. "There was no reason to wait. I know where I have wanted to go for a long time.

Since accepting the job with the Crimson Tide, Saban has snagged the top player in the state of Alabama the last three years: Julio Jones (2008), D.J. Foley (2009) and Milliner.

Milliner is ranked No. 9 overall in the nation, according to Rivals.com, and is considered the best overall defensive back in the nation. He is the 13^th commitment for 2010 recruiting class for Alabama, but is the first five-star prospect. Alabama has received commitments from six four-star prospects though.
