Drake Begins Recording Debut Album "Thank Me Later" This Week

By Kyle "Scoop" Yeldell

Drake, the up-and-coming hip-hop star, started recording his debut album “Thank Me Later” this week, according to reports.

Late last month, Drake announced that he would begin recording his debut album on June 1. His album “Thank Me Later” currently has an expected release date around Christmas of 2009. Lil’ Wayne and Jay-Z will reportedly be featured on the album as well, but Drake has also stated that he would love to work with Kanye West for this album.

Drake has made a lot of headlines with his most recent mixtape “So Far Gone” and has become one of the hottest newcomers in hip-hop in just months. His recent concert at New York’s SOB drew rave reviews and brought several celebrities, such as West and Warner Music Group chairman Lyor Cohen.

Drake is affiliated with Lil’ Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment, but has yet to sign with a major label. The rapper is currently featured on “Every Girl,” the debut song off of the new Young Money Entertainment collaboration album “Young Money Fam”. His song “Best I’ve Ever Had” reached No. 1 on the Billboard U.S. Rap charts despite being released solely on a mixtape.
