For homes and businesses with a blue poly water line, this discount is an opportunity to have those old lines upgraded at a reduced cost. Polybutylene, or “blue poly” as its better known, was used in millions of homes in the 1980s through the mid-1990s. Over time, this pipe has shown to be vulnerable to corrosion caused by the chlorine in drinking water, and it is notorious for leaking. For a limited time, customers with this type of pipe could be reimbursed by the pipe’s manufacturer for replacement costs. Unfortunately, that time has now passed. Pete’s Plumbing uses cross-linked polyethylene or, PEX, to replace old blue poly lines. PEX has been shown to be both flexible and strong, as well as resistant to corrosion. PEX has a high performance rate with indoor and underground plumbing systems and is ideal for use with potable water. PEX is quick and easy to install, and it has the additional benefit of being a green plumbing solution.
