The 80’s crime drama that brought pastels and loafers to the forefront of cool has returned some twenty years later. Gone are Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas, replaced by Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx. Gone are the pastel tees and synthetic beats, replaced by earth tones and spoon-fed pop.
Set to open nation wide today, director Michael Mann has resurrected Crockett and Tubbs for those who may not have had the chance to enjoy the original Miami Vice.
Unfortunately for them the only thing remaining is the drugs. Although Mann had ties to the one hour drama fit for the small screen he apparently rid himself of what he deemed to embarrassing to bring back. Mann was quoted as saying, "It's nostalgia, and I find that passive and not interesting,"
It was that formula in the original that spawned hit shows like The Sopranos and CSI. It remains to be seen what comes from the latest, but with the latest reviews we might not want to be around in twenty years to find out.
