Nevaeh Buchanan Body Possibly Found in River Raisin

The body of a missing Michigan girl may have been found encased in cement on the shore of River Raisin. Police say the body fit the description of Nevaeh Buchanan, who went missing from the parking lot of her apartment complex May 24.

DNA testing on the corpse is being done to confirm the body is that of the 5-year-old.

The body was discovered by Ryan Bickley, 15, and his father Guy Bickley, 51. The men were fishing from the shore of River Raisin when they spotted a block of poured cement that smelled like a decomposing body. They chipped away a piece of the cement and discovered what appeared to be human skin. They called police immediately.

Nevaeh’s grandmother, Sherry Buchanan, was still holding out hope that her granddaughter is alive. “Until I see that baby's face ... I'm not giving up hope yet because it could turn out to be another baby,” she said. “They told me they won't know for sure until the DNA test is in. It hurts. It hurts not knowing.”

George Kennedy, a registered sex offender and a friend of Nevaeh’s mother, is a “person of interest” in the child’s disappearance. He is currently in police custody on a parole violation.
