The Los Angeles Lakers routed the Orlando Magic, 100-75, in Game 1 of the 2009 NBA Finals on Thursday night in LA.
Kobe Bryant scored his Finals career high with 40 points for LA. He grabbed eight rebounds and eight assists, becoming just the fourth player in NBA history to achieve such numbers in a Finals game.
Dwight Howard had 12 points and 15 rebounds for the Magic, who shot just 8-for-23 from behind the three-point line and 30% overall. Howard was just 1-for-6 for the game, the lowest amount of field goals he's ever attempted in the playoffs.
Mickael Pietrus added 14 points, Hedo Turkoglu with 13, and recently activated Jameer Nelson had just six points and four assists in 23 minutes.
The Lakers frontcourt came up big in Game 1. Lamar Odom had 11 points and 14 rebounds off of the bench, while starters Pau Gasol had 16 points and eight rebounds and Andrew Bynum had nine points and nine rebounds.
The Magic led the Lakers 24-22 after the first quarter, but were outscored 60-34 in the second and third quarters.
