The inaugural U.S. Putting Tour Championship, which kicks off on Monday in Carlsbad, California is looking for golfers who can putt well under pressure, according to USPT president, Jim Hartley.
"While a handful of golfers in the USPT Championship will have faced a single putt worth several thousand dollars, this will be a new experience for most of them," said Hartley. "We'll see who comes through when they need to make a slippery left-to-right seven footer for the $10,000 first-place prize."
Hartley indicated that the
putting tournament is open to everyone age 13 and older. Those entrants who will compete for the cash prizes will come from PGA professionals, mini-tour players, and golfers in general who like to play for money.
Golfers who are amateurs can enter as amateurs by waiving their right to play for the cash, meaning they will maintain their amateur status in the eyes of the USGA. These participants will compete for merchandise prizes provided by the presenting sponsor of the
golf championship, Ashdon Golf.
Adding to the pressure of competing for the $10,000 cash prize, the winning professional will gain entry into a 2012 World Putting Tour Championships event that will have a first-place cash prize of $100,000. There will be four such events held next year in California, Florida, Scotland and Jamaica. Armada Sports & Entertainment operates these tournaments and Million Dollar Invitationals under the banner of The Golf Championships. More information on these
golf tournaments is available at the USPuttingTour website.
