Roger
Federer is just one win away from achieving a career Grand Slam after he
overcame a 2-1 deficit to knock off Juan Martin Del Potro in the French Open
semifinals 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 at Roland Garros. Federer will now
face Robin Soderling in the French Open finals.
Federer
was able to offset the powerful serve of Del Potro with consistent play as he
had just one double-fault and committed 29 unforced errors compared to six
double-faults and 40 unforced errors from the Argentine. Del Potro did hammer
out 16 aces but had his serve broken five times.
Federer
is sitting on 13 career Grand Slam singles titles, just one behind the record
held by Pete Sampras. A win at Roland Garros would also mark a career Grand
Slam for Federer as he has won Wimbledon five times, the U.S. Open five times
and the Australian Open three times. Federer has reached the finals of the
French Open the last three years only to fall to Rafael Nadal on each occasion.
