Yankees Clinch American League East with Wins Wednesday
Jorge Posada has had his troubles with baseball this year. Refusing to play and being benched and fighting with his manager (the person he replaced when he came to the team) have all taken their toll on the aging player. Wednesday night he came off the bench to once again help his team win their division.
The Yankees had already beaten the Tampa Bay Rays in the first game of a doubleheader when in the bottom of the eighth inning Posada drove in two runs to help the Yankees finish off the night game 4-2 and lock up the pennant.
By winning the games the Yankees actually managed to help their long-time rivals the Boston Red Sox, who have allowed their wild card lead over the Rays to diminish considerably. The Red Sox lost their game, but the two losses by the Rays extended their lead to two and half games with fewer than ten remaining in the season.
The Yankees dominant starting pitcher CC Sabathia again failed to reach the 20 win margin by allowing two home runs and wasting a 2-0 lead.
