High School Basketball: USA Basketball National Developmental Training Camp Begins Saturday

The inaugural USA Basketball 16-U National Developmental Training Camp began Saturday at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.

The training camp, which will end on June 12, will determine the 2009 USA U16 National Team and 2010 USA U17 World Championship Team, should the U.S. qualify for the U17 World Championships.

The 12-member team that will represent the United States in the inaugural 2009 FIBA Americas U16 Championship will be announced prior to June 13, the team’s departure date for the tournament.

The FIBA Americas U16 Championship will take place in Mendoza, Argentina from June 17-21, 2009. The top three nations will qualify to compete in the FIBA U17 World Championship in Hamburg, Germany in July.

Caudill (Brea Olinda H.S. / Brea, Calif.); Angelo Chol (Herbert Hoover H.S. / San Diego, Calif.); Quinn Cook (DeMatha H.S. / Bowie, Md.); André Drummond (Capitol Preparatory Magnet School / Middletown, Conn.); Perry Ellis (Wichita Heights H.S. / Wichita, Kan.); Sterling Gibbs (Seton Hall Prep / Scotch Plains, N.J.); Brandan Kearney (Southeastern H.S. / Detroit, Mich.); James McAdoo (Norfolk Christian H.S. / Norfolk, Va.); Johnny O’Bryant (Eastside H.S. / Cleveland, Miss.); Tony Parker (Miller Grove H.S. / Lithonia, Ga.); Norvel Pelle (Dominguez H.S. / Long Beach, Calif.); Chasson Randle (Rock Island H.S. / Rock Island, Ill.); L.J. Rose (Second Baptist School / Houston, Texas); Mike Shaw (De La Salle Institute / Chicago, Ill.); Marquis Teague (Pike H.S. / Indianapolis, Ind.); Adonis Thomas (Melrose H.S. / Cordova, Tenn.); Kevin Ware (Rockdale County H.S. / Conyers, Ga.); and Anthony Wroten, Jr. (Garfield H.S. / Renton, Wash.).

Shaw and Teague are unable to attend the June 6-12 training camp.

The 2009-10 USA Developmental National Team head coach Don Showalter of Mid-Prairie High School (Iowa) will be assisted in 2009 and 2010 by Herman Harried, head coach of Lake Clifton High School (Md.), and Kevin Sutton, head coach at Montverde Academy (Fla.).
