A nearly two hour gun battle between gunmen linked to drug cartels and Mexican soldiers in Acapulco have left at least 17 dead and several more wounded.
Officials have said at least 15 gunmen had been killed in the shootings while two soldiers died.
According to reports the fighting began Saturday evening after troops learned the gunmen had been occupying a house in the city. When troops moved in the gunmen reacted by lobbing grenades at the soldiers and gunfire was returned.
As the shooting continued reinforcements arrived to help the gunmen but many of them were killed by the soldiers.
Upon entering the house the troops found four police officers handcuffed and several weapons and rounds of ammunition.
