Holocaust Museum Shooting Leaves 2 Injured

A shooting at the US Holocaust Museum in Washington Monday left at least one person and the gunman injured.

A lone gunman, identified as 88-year-old James von Brunn, exchanged gunfire with a private security guard at the entrance of the museum. The guard and Brunn both sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to George Washington Memorial Hospital. Details on their conditions were not released. No other injuries were reported.

A spokesman for U.S. Park Police said Brunn, who is described as a white supremacist, was armed with a “long gun” and entered the museum at 12:50 p.m. “My understanding is that two other security officers at the museum returned gunfire at the man that had entered the museum,” says the spokesman, Sgt. David Schlosser.

The museum issued a statement saying, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the officer and his family.”
