Two Americans were among 19 people killed in a plane crash in Nepal over the weekend. Officials say the Beechcraft plane operated by Buddha Air was carrying 16 passengers and 3 crew members when it slammed into the side of a mountain about 7 miles from the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Sunday. It was returning from an early morning sightseeing tour to Mt. Everest.
The cause of the crash is unknown and is under investigation by Nepal’s Civil Aviation Authority. The plane lost contact with air traffic controllers about 4 minutes before it went down. Officials say the flight data and voice recorders have been recovered from the crash site.
Buddha Air identified the American victims as Andrew Wade and Natalie Neilan. The company said ten other passengers were Indian nationals, three were Nepalese, and one was Japanese. All three crew members were Nepalese.
