Suncoast Rehabilitation Center Helps Where Budgets Fall Short

The current nationwide recession hits close to home when Hernando County Sheriff Richard Nugent and the Hernando County Administrator are forced to make budget cuts that will affect the employment of Hernando County citizens, as well as limit drug prevention resources available to Hernando County.

In late May, Sheriff Nugent presented to the County Commission, trying to find a solution to the 4.2 million in cuts he must meet, including cutting gang and drug prevention programs.  "The reason we presented these programs and these positions was to give the commission an idea of what the target number would impact,'' Nugent said. “Where we end up is that it comes down to people.''

Suncoast Rehabilitation Center, a Narconon Program located in Spring Hill, FL is prepared to help.  Currently Narconon Suncoast is sponsoring 15 schools in Hernando County with drug education and drug prevention programs.  Suncoast Rehabilitation Program understands that education and prevention is ultimately the long-term solution to the drug abuse problems that, because of the consequences of addiction, have become a huge problem in this county and statewide.

“We intend to make a large impact in Hernando County through not only our drug and alcohol rehabilitation program, but also our continued support of drug education and prevention programs in schools,” said Tammy Strickling, Director of Suncoast Rehab Center. “Our participation and support of other community programs are aimed at improving the lives of Hernando County residents”

Suncoast Rehab Center is a long-term residential program, with an average stay of 3-4 months and success rate of 76% for permanent recovery from addiction.
