Talladega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby finally makes its way into theaters this weekend. The film, written by Will Farrell along with Adam McKay, pokes fun at the NASCAR circuit and the rising popularity the sport has gained.
Ricky Bobby, played by Ferrell, gets his break in driving while a member of a pit crew. When the team’s driver pulls in for a bathroom break Farrell jumps in and the legend begins. His dominance of NASCAR is never in question until a French Formula One driver played by Sacha Baron Cohen challenges Bobby’s abilities.
Supporting Ferrell in the cast are Gary Cole, Amy Adams, John C. Reilly, Michael Clarke Duncan, Sacha Baron Cohen and Leslie Bibb.
McKay, who was a writer for Saturday Night Live, teamed with Ferrell in Anchorman.
Critics have been unkind to the film yet that usually doesn’t stop people from going to see a Ferrell film. Estimates have Talladega Nights bringing in just over $30 million for the opening weekend.
The box office race could be close this weekend with Miami Vice staring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx entering its second weekend and Pirates staring Johnny Depp still going strong in its fifth week.
