NBA Finals Schedule Game 5: Los Angeles Lakers Look to Take Title as Orlando Magic Face Must-Win

With a layup and a single free throw the Orlando Magic would be entering Game 5 of the NBA Finals with a 3-1 series advantage against the Los Angeles Lakers. The reality is the Magic didn’t get that layup in Game 2 and failed to sink one of two free throws at the end of Game 4 and now it is Orlando that sits in that 3-1 hole and faces a must-win situation on Sunday if their season is to continue.

Los Angeles hasn’t necessarily been the more talented team in the series yet they have taken advantage of every opportunity Orlando has offered. After Courtney Lee failed to convert a layup at the end of regulation in Game 2 the Lakers rolled in OT to take a 2-0 series lead. In Game 4 with the Magic a free-throw away from knotting the series at 2-2 Dwight Howard missed a pair from the stripe with just seconds left on the clock and Derek Fisher made Orlando pay with a triple that sent the game into an extra frame and an eventual LA win.

Facing a 3-1 hole and knowing they will have to hand the Lakers three straight losses, something LA didn’t do all year, Orlando knows they have to play flawless and on Sunday if they open that door for the Lakers one more time it may be difficult for them to stay motivated.

No doubt Kobe Bryant will be determined to end the series for the Lakers. After a huge Game 1 in which he poured in 40 points Kobe has turned his attention to distributing the ball and as a result Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom and the rest of his cast have stepped up.

For Orlando it’s been a series that has lacked a true leader. Howard has had big games and Hedo Turkoglu has remained a consistent scorer, Rashard Lewis can get hot and find a rhythm and Mickael Pietrus can do the same but when it hit scrunch time the Magic lack that one guy that will do the right thing and it has cost them dearly.

Orlando can force the series back to LA with a win in Game 5 and they know they can play with the Lakers on the road having earned a victory there in the regular season. Now its just a matter of what team shows up on Sunday.
