NBA Finals Game 5 Scores: Los Angeles Lakers Capture 15th Title in Franchise History After Knocking Off Orlando Magic
Kobe Bryant scored 30 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out 5 assists, Lamar Odom added 17 points and 10 boards and Pau Gasol finished with 14 points and 15 rebounds as the Los Angeles Lakers knocked off the Orlando Magic 99-86 on Sunday night to capture their 15th NBA title in franchise history and the 10th NBA title for LA head coach Phil Jackson, passing Red Auerbach for most all time.
In the opening minutes of the first frame it looked like Orlando was determined to force a Game 6 and send the series back to Los Angeles as they built a 19-10 lead but the Lakers began to cut into that advantage and by the end of the quarter that Magic lead was down to 28-26.
Orlando managed to hang on to their slim lead midway through the second but then the Lakers used a 16-0 run that put them in front 52-40 and the Magic appeared stunned and went into the half trailing 56-46.
The Magic tried to make a move early in the third quarter and Rafer Alston pulled his club to within 58-53 but Lamar Odom hit back-to-back triples to push the Lakers lead back up to 11 and that was quickly inflated to a 16 point advantage that Orlando could never overcome.
