Academic Summer Camp Staff Applies Finishing Touches to Training

As summer quickly approaches, SuperCamp’s academic summer camp staff are in the final stages of their more than 300 hours of prep work. By the end of June, these staff members will settle into their dorm rooms on seven college campuses across the country in California, Washington, Colorado, New York, Iowa, and North Carolina, and will dedicate their summer to bringing academic and life skills improvements to teens across the United States and from over 30 countries worldwide.

Now in its 28th year, SuperCamp has become a world leader in teaching leadership, academic, and life skills to students ages 11-19. The quality and preparation of the SuperCamp staff are two of the hallmarks of the highly regarded
summer enrichment program that set it apart from the traditional summer camp setting. Since its induction in 1982, SuperCamp has successfully graduated over 50,000 students and taught over 40,000 teachers how to bring Quantum Learning methodology into their classrooms.

As a result of over 300 hours of personal training, the summer camp staff is prepared down to the very last detail in order to cover the more than 30 individual camp programs that SuperCamp will run this summer for students from sixth grade through college. There is even a unique summer camp for parents that SuperCamp offers, Parent Weekend, which requires its own special planning.

Each of the seven program sites are staffed with a lead facilitator, four to five additional facilitators who teach portions of curriculum, team leaders who lead groups of 10-12 campers each, an office coordinator, counselor, wellness person, and a logistics coordinator.

SuperCamp’s academic summer camps combine learning tools, such as reading, writing and
study skills, with physical challenges, to help students develop on many different levels. As a result, SuperCamp staff must be multi-talented in order to help create meaningful transformations in their students in only 10 days.

The effort and preparation SuperCamp’s staff puts into their work is outwardly evident. In a study of over 6,000 SuperCamp graduates, 73 percent reported achieving higher grades after attending SuperCamp, an astonishing 98 percent indicated that they continued to use the skills they learned following camp, while 84 percent said their self-esteem improved and 81 percent noted an increase in confidence and self-esteem.

SuperCamp caters its programs to specific age and grade levels. Junior Forum is designed for students entering grades 6-8 in the fall, Senior Forum is for students entering grades 9-12, and Quantum U is a college success program for incoming and current college students.
