Sisters Brought Together Through Narconon Drug Rehab

“My sister was running away, for some reason she hated her family.”

“My sister was on drugs, and she ran away.”  This comment came from Sam, the sister of Sabrina, who was a former graduate of the Narconon drug rehab program in 1998.  During an emotional interview done in Montreal, Canada, the two sisters talked about being apart because of drug addiction, and how Sabrina’s own efforts to get clean brought them closer together.  Sam said in her interview:  “ Before, we were really close - we used to play-fight all the time, like siblings use to.  Every time she came home I tried to let her know I was there; she always pushed me away.”  Sam was very young at the time when Sabrina first started using drugs, and did not know really what to think.  “My sister was running away, for some reason she hated her family,” said Sam.

Sabrina openly admitted when she was using drugs, she wanted nothing to do with her family.  “I was a terrible sister, even before drugs,” said Sabrina in her interview, “when I started using drugs, I wasn’t at home.  I was leaving more and more – I didn’t think about her.” (referring to her sister)  “ I never noticed her, I don’t remember her at that time.”

One of the major reasons Sabrina sought help was for her family; however, when she was in the middle of her addiction she had a different view of her family.  “I tried to make sure they were as far away from me as possible, I didn’t want to think about them.  I didn’t want to have a family.”  Tears begun to fall when the sisters began to talk about how Sabrina’s drug use affected their mother.  “I think my mom felt very alone and that she failed,” comments Sam, “She became very sad, like in a very depressive way.  I hated the fact she was putting my parents through that.”

Sabrina could barley hold back the tears when talking about her mother, it was a difficult subject for her to discuss.  “She tried to help a lot,” said Sabrina, “I could tell that she was very sad, she wanted me to come home; she was blaming herself – it wasn’t her fault.”  Now over ten years later, these two ladies are closer than ever, and have both grown significantly having gone through so much.  Sabrina, after completing the Narconon drug rehab program embraces the time she now spends with her sister.  “Why did I even hate her?” comments Sabrina, “All those years we could have been playing dress up and make up, going out checking out boys.”  Sabrina could not get the smiles off her face.  Sam said in her interview:  “We have grown so very close, we even use to live together at one point.”
