Republican Senator John Ensign has admitted to carrying on an extra-marital affair with a campaign staff member between December 2007 and August 2008, possibly cutting short his rise in the party and ending any though of a presidential bid in 2012.
Ensign, of Nevada, admitted to the affair, telling the AP “I deeply regret and an very sorry for my actions.”
According to reports the affair was with a staff member who was married to an employee in Ensign’s Senate office.
Ensign, 51, has served as a Sen. since Jan. 2001, prior to that he served in the House of Representatives. He has three children with his wife Darlene.
