Celebrity Drug Use Increasing

New reports indicate that drug use is on the rise with celebrities

Hollywood celebrities, often viewed as pictures of perfection and role models to many, are succumbing to the evils of drug addiction and as a result needing drug rehabilitation.

Professional athletes like Sammy Sosa join Alex Rodriguez and Manny Ramirez and an increasing number of celebrity major league baseball players using performance-enhancing drugs as found out in once incident when a lawyer with possession of the test results recently released this information.

And who can ignore the continue reporting on actress, Lindsay Lohan, who is in the news for alleged drug use and “bad behavior” on an almost daily basis. In addition, there is also the very popular television show; Celebrity Rehab on VH1 that is a program that revolves only around celebrities and their drug addiction problems as well as efforts to get drug treatment.

Although this is unfortunate, drug use by celebrities is not necessarily surprising. And, as more and more public figures are outed for their drug use the focus turns to drug rehabilitation.  One of the few positive points is that if an addiction problem is uncovered and the individual goes into the right type of drug treatment program and becomes rehabilitated, they can once again be a positive role model whether they are a celebrity, opinion leader, or not.

One such rehabilitation facility that has treated individuals from all walks of life is the Narconon Louisiana drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. Narconon Louisiana is an inpatient drug treatment facility that achieves an unheard of 75% success rate for permanent recovery from addiction. Jeff Lukas, Executive Director of Narconon Louisiana explains what makes the program so successful, "Narconon Louisiana has the viewpoint that people are not born as addicts," say Lukas. "At some point drugs were used a solution to a problem and if we can get to the underlying reasons and the original problem and isolate that and handled it, then drugs are no longer a solution.”

In addition to handling the mental and emotional components of addiction, Narconon Louisiana also addresses the physical aspect. Individuals that enroll on the Narconon program complete a detoxification program that rids their bodies of harmful drug residues, therefore reducing the physical drug cravings that often lead to relapse.

And while we may see more and more celebrities struggling with substance abuse issues as well as individuals in everyday life, it is vital to focus our efforts on drug rehabilitation and education.
