Cruise Ship Quarantined Off Venezuela Following Outbreak of Swine Flu

A cruise ship with more than 1,200 passengers and crew has been quarantined by Venezuela following an outbreak of swine flu aboard the vessel.

The Spanish-owned Ocean Dream is now docked at the Venezuelan island of Margarita where it will remain until June 24 according to the Health Ministry. Attempts to disembark at stops in Barbados and Grenada had been denied earlier in the trip after it was discovered three crew members were diagnosed with the swine flu.

Since then there have been eleven crew members who have shown symptoms of the virus.

The swine flu has been blamed for at least 140 deaths since its outbreak in Mexico earlier this year. It has since spread to 74 countries with more than 30,000 cases reported.
