Jack Black vows to “bring the thunder” after being named Moonman emcee; promises “Radio City Music Hall will never be the same”

MTV has announced it will be turning over hosting duties to the highly animated Jack Black for this years Video Music Awards on August 31st. The flannel loving retrosexual Black is no stranger to the rock scene with acting credits that include High Fidelity and School of Rock as well as his musical partnership with Kyle Gass from which their band Tenacious D evolved.

Christina Norman, MTV’s president, call Black the “perfect mix of comedy, rock, irreverence and star power.” An accolade the comedian is prepared to bring to the New York venue saying “Prepare yourself for a rip-snortin’ humdinger.”

Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Panic! at the Disco, the Killers, Ludacris, the Raconteurs and T.I. are set to perform at the annual awards show.

Shakira and Red Hot Chili Peppers lead all nominees with seven potential speeches followed by MTV icon Madonna who could was nominated in six categories. Madonna took the stage at the first VMA’s in 1984 where she had jaws dropping during her performance of “Like a Virgin.”
