PETA has sent President Obama a humane bug catcher
following his killing of a fly in an interview with CNBC yesterday.
Bruce Friedrich, the vice president for Policy at PETA, says
the animal rights group wishes Obama had set a better example and not killed
the fly. “We support compassion for the even the smallest animals. We support
giving insects the benefit of the doubt,” Friedrich says.
During an interview with CNBC’s John Harwood, Obama swatted
at the pesky fly before squashing it. When the cameras cut to the dead fly,
Obama said, “That was pretty impressive wasn’t it…I got the sucker!”
Friedrich says PETA supports “brushing flies away rather
than killing them.” Yesterday afternoon, PETA sent a Katcha Bug to the White
House. A Katcha Bug is a device that traps bugs and allows users to release
them outside. The White House has not commented.
