Former downhill bike racing champion Melissa Giove was
arrested Tuesday for possession of marijuana. Police say Giove and Eric Canori
were arrested after authorities seized 384 pounds of marijuana from a truck the
pair were driving in upstate New York.
Giove, 37, and Canori, 30, were charged with conspiring
to possess and distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana.
If convicted, Giove and Canori face a maximum of 40 years
in prison and a $2 million fine.
Giove, nicknamed The Missile, was one of downhill mountain biking’s first female stars. She won several world and national titles before her retirement in 2003.
