Somali politician Mohamed Hussein Addow, an outspoken critic of the militant Islamist group al-Shabab, was gunned down in the capital Mogadishu on Friday. Addow is the third public figure in Somalia to be killed in as many days.
Addow had been in the Karen district of northern Mogadishu, an area the he represented, when gunmen opened fire.
On Wednesday the police commissioner of Mogadishu was killed and a day later Security Minister Omar Hashi Aden was among 35 killed in a suicide bombing in Beledweyne, an attack that al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for carrying out.
