Suicide Bomber Kills at least 30 Near Shia Mosque in Northern Iraq

A suicide bomber detonated an explosive-laden truck positioned near a Shia mosque in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, killing at last 30 people and injuring more than 150 others.

The massive explosion occurred just as worshippers were leaving the Al-Rasoul mosque following midday prayers. Several homes were destroyed and the mosque was badly damaged as rescue crews dug through rubble to free those buried under the debris.

Kirkuk is home to a mix of Arabs, Christians, Kurds and members of the Turkmen community and differences between them have often resulted in violence.
