Maoist Rebels Kill at least 11 Indian Police Officers in Landmine Attack

A landmine attack launched by suspected Maoist rebels in India’s central state of Chhattisgarh has killed at least 11 police officers and left several more injured.

 

According to reports the officers had been travelling along a stretch of road that has seen heavy rebel activity when their truck was ambushed. After the landmine blast the rebels then opened fire on the police officers who returned fire, killing at least seven of the rebels.

 

In more than two decades of fighting between Maoist rebels and India there have been more than 6,000 people killed.
