2 Dead In California Limestone Quarry Shooting

Authorities in Northern California are searching for a 45-year-old man they believe is behind a shooting at a limestone quarry early Wednesday morning. Santa Clara County Sherriff’s Office spokesman Jose Cardoza said Shareef Allman, an employee of the Permanente Quarry in Cupertino, walked into a safety meeting armed with a handgun and rifle. He opened fire immediately, killing two people and wounding six others.

Authorities believe Allman is also responsible for an attempted carjacking near Hewlett-Packard Co. in Cupertino later in the morning. A man matching Allman’s description and carrying gun similar to the one used in the quarry shooting attempted to force a woman from her car. The suspect shot the woman and fled the scene on foot. Details on the woman’s condition were not released.

Cardoza said Allman is considered “armed and dangerous” and is “possibly still in the area.” Schools in the Cupertino area have been placed on lockdown while quarry employees have been moved to a safe location.
