The Milwaukee Bucks traded former All-Star forward Richard Jefferson to the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, just prior to the 2009 NBA Draft.
The Bucks will receive Bruce Bowen, Fabricio Oberto and veteran Kurt Thomas in the deal. The two teams have agreed to the deal in principle. A trade call to make the deal official will happen later Tuesday.
The Spurs now add a perimeter offensive threat to go along with Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. However, Bowen, the starting shooting guard, is one of the best defensive players in the NBA and his presence in the starting lineup allowed for Ginobili to just focus on offense when he came off of the bench.
The Bucks were driven by financial reasons as Bowen, Oberto and Thomas are all in the last years of their contracts.

The Bucks will now have some room to resign one or both of their unrestricted free agents (Charlie Villanueva and Ramon Sessions) for next year. It will also give more playing time to rookie forward Joe Alexander.
