Chris Brown Sentenced to Probation, Community Service for Rihanna Assault

Chris Brown was sentenced to five years of probation and 180 hours of community service in a felony assault case against girlfriend Rihanna on Monday.

Brown pleaded guilty to the charges as he entered a plea agreement and his community service will be served in Brown’s home state of Virginia.

Judge Patricia M. Schnegg also issued a five-year "stay away" order requiring Brown and Rihanna stay at least 50 yards from each, except at industry events when the distance is reduced to 10 yards. Brown will be formally sentenced on Aug. 5.

Brown’s community service must contain hard labor as Judge Schnegg cited Caltrains cleaning and graffiti removal as examples. Brown will also be required to attend domestic violence classes.

Both Brown, 20, and Rihanna, 21, were present in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday afternoon as she was expected to testify. Rihanna was subpoenaed by the L.A. Superior Court to testify, which would have broken her silence about the incident that took place in February.

However, she did not testify. Instead, when she walked in, Schnegg alerted Rihanna of the stay away order, something that insiders said she did not want.

Brown was arrested in February after he assaulted and beat Rihanna after the two were involved in a heated argument while driving in Los Angeles on the eve of the Grammy Awards. The incident made national news mostly due to Brown’s wholesome image and because they were one of the nation’s hot young celebrity couples.
