A strong earthquake rattled northern Argentina Thursday morning shortly after 8 o’clock. The U.S. Geological Survey reports the 6.2 magnitude tremor was centered in Jujuy about 87 miles east-northeast of Salta and about 40 miles from the small town of San Pedro. The quake hit at a depth of 5.9 miles at 8:12 a.m.
Minor damage, mostly cracked windows, has been reported in Jujuy and Salta. No serious damage, injuries or deaths were reported. No other details were available.
