Amanda Brumfield, the estranged daughter of actor Billy Bob Thornton, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the 2008 death of a 1-year-old girl. A jury convicted Brumfield of aggravated manslaughter of a child in May, but found her not guilty of first degree murder and aggravated child abuse.
Brumfield, 32, was babysitting Olivia Madison Garcia in October 2008 when the toddler died of blunt force trauma to the head and a fractured skull. Brumfield claimed Olivia hit her head while climbing out of her playpen. She said the toddler appeared fine, so she did not call 911. Brumfield said then she took a nap and later awoke to find Olivia limp and unresponsive.
Brumfield was sentenced Thursday in the same courthouse where Casey Anthony was acquitted of the 2008 murder of her 3-year-old daughter Caylee Marie Anthony. Thornton has not commented.
