Eight men suspected of being involved in 67 recent killings in Veracruz, Mexico were arrested by the navy this week. Authorities say the suspects are members of the Jalisco New Generational Cartel. They are believed to have posed as a vigilante group known as the “Zetas Killers” in a recent video posted on the internet.
Navy spokesman Jose Luis Vergara said the men have been linked to last month’s incident in which gunmen left two trucks full of bodies in the middle of a busy road in Boca del Rio. The trucks were left with their doors standing open, causing bodies to fall out on the street. The majority of the 35 victims had criminal backgrounds in drug trafficking, kidnapping, homicide and extortion.
The suspects are also accused of murdering 32 people found in three separate houses in the city of Veracruz on Thursday. Twenty bodies were in a residential neighborhood and eleven others were found in a subdivision. One other body was found in a third house.
