Roger Federer moved a step closer to capturing his sixth Wimbledon title and his 15th career Grand Slam singles victory after dismantling Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in straight sets 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 on Wednesday to advance to the third round at the All England Club.
Federer hammered out 11 aces in a match that lasted just under an hour and a half and committed just ten unforced errors while winning 94 percent of the first serves he put in play. The Swiss star broke Garcia-Lopez’s serve on five of seven opportunities while never having his own serve broken.
Federer is sitting on 14 career Grand Slam singles titles, tying him with Pete Sampras for most all time. He recently captured his first title at the French Open, marking a career Grand Slam for Federer as he has won Wimbledon five times, the U.S. Open five times and the Australian Open three times.
