Drug Abuse Costs Plague the Ohio, U.S.
In 2006, 23.6 million persons aged 12 or older needed treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol use problem in the United States. Of these, 2.5 million received treatment at a specialty facility leaving 21.2 million persons in the state that still needing drug treatment in the country.
Untreated substance abuse and addiction adds significant costs to families and communities, including those related to violence and property crimes, prison expenses, court and criminal costs, emergency room visits, healthcare utilization, child abuse and neglect, lost child support, foster care and welfare costs, reduced productivity, and unemployment.
The cost to the entire United States in terms of illicit drug abuse alone is $181 billion annually. When combined with alcohol and tobacco costs, they exceed $500 billion including healthcare, criminal justice, and lost productivity. Successful drug abuse treatment can help reduce these costs in addition to crime, and the spread of HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, and other infectious diseases and to aid in the reduction of an already overdrawn budget.
Drug abuse has caused significant damage across the country but recently has hit many areas of the Midwest such as Ohio. The latest statistics report that approximately 228,000 Ohio citizens reported needing but not receiving drug treatment for illicit drug use within a one year period. Addicted to drugs like cocaine, heroin and pharmaceutical drugs, Ohio citizens are in need of effective treatment that gets results.
One such program that has been treating addicts from Ohio and all over the country while achieving a more than 70% for permanent sobriety is the Narconon Freedom Center. A recent graduate of the program named Carl, has seen this first-hand as the program has helped him with his own successful recovery from addiction.
Carl, a lifelong resident of the State of Ohio, had exhausted every option of treatment available to him before coming to Freedom Treatment Center. By the time he arrived at the Narconon Freedom center in 2007, he had been to 18 other drug treatment programs. Not only did Carl successfully complete this program and achieve long term sobriety, he has since undergone a training program so that he could provide care to others in need.
The reason why Freedom Treatment Center is so effective is because the program uses drug free withdrawal, and sauna detoxification, as key agents of change. Many times an individual seeking drug treatment is in a state of poor overall health due to drug and alcohol abuse. The sauna detoxification program used through Narconon not only restores their health, but also helps to eliminate drug toxins from the fatty tissues, which is thought to help with cravings.
Another strong evidence based strength is the length of a Narconon program. Research from the National Institute on Drug Abuse has shown unequivocally that good outcomes are contingent on adequate treatment length. Generally, for residential or outpatient treatment, participation for less than 90 days is of limited effectiveness, and treatment lasting significantly longer is recommended for maintaining positive outcomes.
Ohio residents and citizens of our country do not have to continue to be the effect of substance abuse, paying for the consequences and not seeing effective results with treatment.
