The Phoenix Suns have dealt center Shaquille O’Neal to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Ben Wallace, Sasha Pavlovic and the 46th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. Phoenix will also receive $500,000 in the deal.
Shaq will now partner with LeBron James, giving the Cavaliers what they believe to be the missing piece in their quest for an NBA title. Following their loss to the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference Finals the Cavaliers felt they needed a player that could neutralize Dwight Howard and O’Neal fit that bill.
O’Neal has just one year left on his current contract which will give the Cavs the opportunity to land a free agent in the 2010 class which will include Chris Bosh.
