Billy Bob Thornton Daughter Indicted on Murder Charges in Baby’s Death

The eldest daughter of actor Billy Bob Thornton was indicted Wednesday on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter. The charges stem from the October 2008 death of a 1-year-old Florida girl.

Amanda Brumfield, 29, is being held at the Orange County Jail without bail. She was arrested earlier this month.

Brumfield was babysitting the girl when she died on October 3. She told police that the baby hit her head in a fall. Brumfield called for help two hours after the incident when she was unable to revive the child. Detectives determined Brumfield’s explanation was inconsistent with the child’s injuries. An autopsy revealed the girl suffered a fractured skull and brain injuries. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.

At the time of Brumfield’s arrest, Thornton said he “has had no contact with her for quite some time.” The actor, 53, also released a statement saying his “heart goes out to the baby’s family and loved ones.”

Brumfield is Thornton's daughter with ex-wife Melissa Lee Gatlin.
