The fifth son of embattled Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi was reportedly captured this week in the coastal city of Sirte. Citing field commanders in Sirte, Tripoli Revolutionary Council leader Abdallah Naker says Moatassim Gadhafi and several aids were captured Wednesday after a four-hour gun battle. They are allegedly being held in Benghazi.
An official at the National Transitional Council said reports of Gadhafi’s capture are untrue while two other officials said the reports remain unconfirmed. Previous reports of the capture of Gadhafi family members have proved to be false.
Moatassim was a national security adviser for his father. In recent weeks he led operations against rebels in Sirte.
