The reality of Drug Addiction
Drug Addiction is often glamorized in the media
Drug Addiction is often glamorized in the media. The message seems to be if you’re rich and famous, you are likely to become addicted and rehab might not work.
Movie stars, rappers, and even novelist’s make the news with one form of addiction or another. Frequent trips to drug rehabs seem to become attractive. Even trips to the L.A. County jail have been glamorized.
This can be confusing for young adults and kids who are questioning the safety of drugs and it is a good opportunity to set the record straight. Events in the media about celebrities and drugs can make for interesting conversation. Parents can step in to tell the real story – addiction means suffering, no matter who the addict.
Television show such as “The Cleaner” and “Intervention” are also a step in the right direction. The popularity of these shows show that more and more Americans are becoming aware of the problem of drug abuse.
Now is a good time for parents to talk to their kids. The United Nations (UN) International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is June 26 and around the world a no drug message will be sent. Many voices should speak on this day.
Getting the real information on how harmful drugs can be into the hands of young adults and children is the only permanent solution. Explaining the grim consequences of drug abuse is necessary to combat the glamour portrayed by the media.
In addition to effective drug education, Narconon of Georgia provides effective drug treatment.

Narconon of Georgia is a non-traditional drug abuse treatment program which was founded in 1967 whose mission also includes drug education and working with children. The Narconon program provides body detoxification through a sauna and exercise program that helps eliminate or reduce cravings. Then the client learns those life skills essential to success in life and the ability to stay clean.
